Welcome back to the blog: Week 2

  Blue yodel No. 2 is honestly a very fun song to listen to. When you listen to the lyrics closely you can see that this song is honestly about a break up. I think it is funny that this is the style of a break up song in this era versus what we have come to known as break up songs now. But even though the style of displaying the message has changed the message has still remained over time. The message being that I am losing my girl or love, and I still love them but they are going to miss me once I am gone. Another aspect of the song that I have thought to be interesting and really fun to listen to is the actual yodeling part. He has a very strong control over his voice to hit the same notes every time. He also uses the yodeling as a transition which makes the song very smooth. So in-between every verse he yodels, so it is almost as the yodel is the chorus. Long John

       Long John is a very strong representation of the racism that was happening during the era it was written in. Through the lyrics we can hear that it is a story of someone they have lost from the cruelty they were suffering through. With it being written in the call and response style it gives a really strong connection to the listener. When I listen to this song I can easily picture the African Americans at work, with one singing the main and then everyone else responding. This also plays into the background of the song, because it sounds like they are all working on something that creates the beat of the song. So the song just by itself represents the hard work that these African Americans went through. But when you look more into the emotions of the song the more it shows you the true feeling of this time. When the song first starts of the main singer holds the same tone of voice through the first verse but then when he gets into the chorus his tone goes high...
